What this site is

The site collects published research and practical ideas on summer learning loss, summer activities, summer reading programs and after-school enrichment. It does not sell anything, does not take enrollments or payments and does not recommend a particular provider.

How the pages are written

Statements about research name their source and year in the text, and each page ends with a list of the sources it used. Where researchers disagree, the page says so. Where the evidence is thin, the page says that too. Practical tips that are not backed by a specific study are described as suggestions.

The sources are mainly NWEA, RAND and The Wallace Foundation, the Brookings Institution, the Institute of Education Sciences and the American Library Association. Reports are updated over time, so figures can change. If you rely on a number, check the original source.

What this site is not

  • It is not professional educational, medical or psychological advice. If you are worried about your child's progress, speak to their teacher or school.
  • It is not an official site of any school, district, library or government body.
  • It does not list programs, prices or enrollment dates. Details like those change and belong with the organization that runs a program.

Contact and operation

The site is run by the site operator, who is not named on the pages. There is no contact form or enrollment page.
